4th Grade Update

4th Grade Update

We are trying to raise money to feed the hungry. Students can bring in money to put in a bucket at school. Don't feel any pressure to donate but the opportunity is here if you were looking for a cause. The winning class gets a Pizza Hut pizza party.

Box Tops, Labels for Education, Tyson, and Spartan UPC
We have collected quite a few. I have to believe we are in the lead on this competition but we will need about 2000 more points to win it.  Last year we collected 5,000 and still lost to Mrs. Brinks
class by 80 labels.  Every label counts, lets see what we can bring in.  The school has bought two tetherballs and red and blue pennies for the playground. The students love wearing these because they know who is on each team. These were ordered through the Campbells label program.  The students are seeing the results of their donations.
MEAP is finally here!
Description: C:\Users\lfredin\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\BQFR9GD8\MC900439367[1].jpgWe have worked so hard on preparing for the MEAP test. Here is the 4th graders MEAP schedule. Tuesday Oct. 8 Reading part I
Wednesday Oct. 9 Reading part II
Thursday Oct 10 Writing part I
Tuesday Oct 15 Math
Wednesday Oct 16Writing Part II

Please have your child get plenty of rest at night and feed them well in the morning.  If students do eat breakfast at school, just a reminder that they stop serving at 8:00 a.m.
Picking up your child
If you pick up your child after school please meet them down by the office or outside by the big parking lot.  It is really crowded in the hall and we want to keep the students safe.  If you have an early dismissal please sign your child out at the office first.
Check out www.mcbain.org to see the teacher’s blogs. Mrs. O’Keefe has Social Studies information on her blog.  I have a link to my website on my blog that gets you to spelling lists, assignment sheets, class scheldule, math links, and other fun games.
We finally have our schedule figured out.  Music: Monday at 8:55, PE: Wednesday 2:15 and Thursday 8:15 (nothing like back to back) Computer: Tuesday 8:45 and Friday 9:15, and Library: Tuesday at 10:00 every other week

First Week

Thank you for coming to the open house. It was good to see all of you. Thank you for all of the supplies brought in for your child.

IPAD update:  I think I am as excited as the students about these iPads.  We have learned basic things from turning them on and off, how to store them, we have taken pictures and discovered neat things that they do.  The students are assigned an email address.  This address is an in house email.  It means they can send email to me and to you if you give them you address but they cannot receive email.  Which protects them from spam and other things.  I would like you to email me at lfredin.mcbain.org.  You could just put address as the subject.  That way I will have it for my records and the students could email you too.

Book orders are coming home and they are due on Sept. 20th.  If you order on line you get a 5 dollar free book and the class gets a 3 dollar free book.   It is like free money.
Meap is about 6 weeks away.  We are doing a lot of review for it.  We are reviewing everything they learned in third grade.  The summer seams to have taken some of that knowledge from them.

Late Start:
Late Start is the third Monday of the month. School starts at 10:00 a.m. on those days.

Welcome Back Students!

I can't wait to see you either at the open house or the first day of school.  The open house is Wednesday, August 28 from 4:00-6:00 pm.  It is informal so come any time to meet me and find your desk and locker.  You can bring in your supplies also.  See you then.

Box tops labels

We are only 2000 box tops behind the leader.  Ask neighbors, relatives, and friends and lets see how close we can get.  Remember all students win from everyone's hard work.  We have that new playground equipment that was put in last summer.  Also, there are four new basketball hoops and new cement that is added to the old hoop that we had.  Two hoops are nine foot hoops and two are eight foot hoops and one is a seven foot hoop.  We had some good games of 20 on 20.  So the students are loving it.

Field Trip May 31

Dear families,

On Friday, May 31st, the fourth grade will be traveling on a field trip to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park. We will be starting our trip with the exhibit and presentation at the visitor center in Empire, explore the Maritime Museum and the Blacksmith Shop in Glen Haven, and will finally eat lunch at the Dune Climb. We will be leaving promptly at 8:05 a.m. and we will be back for the buses at 2:50 p.m.

As you can imagine, the weather can be quite unpredictable. Being so close to Lake Michigan, we are asking that your child wear layers of clothing.  We will be outside most of the day rain or shine, so please dress accordingly.

For lunch, we are asking that your child bring a disposable lunch.  Please pack a few extra snacks for the bus ride to and from the dunes. No glass please.

No chaperones are needed at this time.
